What is the dress code for a musical?

I'm going to see the musical 'Rent' tonight at a local center for performing arts, and my aunt and I were wondering...how do you dress?

I suggested semi-casual/formal. For men: a dress shirt with dress pants and nice shoes. Maybe it's less than that, I don't know.

Suggestions?

Dress how you would feel most comfortable say as if you were going to a nice restaurant. You'll probably find yourself with the majority. Still you'll see people over-dressed and probably some looking as though they were going hiking.

I have always dressed up to go to a musical in clothes I would wear to work or church. However, I have been surprised to see people there in jeans and clothes I wouldn't be seen in public. Dress for yourself and how you would feel comfortable out in public...but know that the majority of the musical, most people will not see what you are wearing cause they turn the lights down:) Have fun!|||Hey i must say that rent is a real good musical,

its not a very classy movie as it talks about these poor people earning a living,I'm totally in love with it :)don't think its necessary for formal maybe for a lady a...white shirt/blouse, demin jacket, demin/black/blue skirt and nice silver heels.
