Know about wrestling? COMMENT HERE!?
I was shocked and dismayed by the interview that aired this morning, Friday, February 16, 2007, with the wrestler, Nick Nasenbeny, and his parents.
It is obvious to me that no one at the Today Show understands the
sport of wrestling OR what was truly happening during that particular wrestling match. Not only was Nick not "pining" his opponent, he was actually potentially hurting him.
Nick was performing what is called a "potenitally dangerous" move that could have dislocated the shoulder and/or broken the elbow of the other wrestler, the son of Ray Hoffman. This is clearly indicated by the referee in the video.
The referee should have been quicker to catch the move and I commend Mr. Hoffman for seeing that his child was in physical danger. I am quite curious as to the events prior to Mr. Hoffman's actions - my guess is that Nick repeatedly tried this move (or others) that were putting the other wrestler at risk.

COMMENT HERE!?theaterIf the wrestler is doing something potentially dangerous and the ref isn't doing anything about it, especially when its not even in a pinning combination, then someone has to intervene. It isn't wrong for a parent to speak up when their child is in danger of having physical harm done to them. People who do not know about wrestling should not comment on stuff like this, especially on TV.
