Endodontist Help!?
I have a clip which is showing an Endodontist performing a root canal. I would like to know what is he sticking into the patients tooth (34-58 seconds)? What is that pink stick (1.00-1.50 seconds)? Why does it beep? Why stick it into his tooth? Does the doctor leave the pink thing inside the tooth? What does Gutta Perta mean? If can please help me... Most have been made with gutta percha, which I understand is a type of rubber, with a bit of barium mixed in (so that it will show up on xray). The gutta percha has been the most widely used, for decades. For smaller teeth, there is an alternative substance that is more bio-friendly, but it does Not work well in teeth with multiple roots, as it swells, & tends to crack, letting infection seep through. More recently, there is another alternative, using a composite material instead of the gutta percha. My dentist has even made my teeth's posts from the composite, at my request. (I have MCS - Multiple Chemical Sensitivities).
Without any posts, the tooth would fall out, sooner or later...
When the tooth has been infected & had a dead root in it, they need to disinfect the are somehow, before permanently filling it. I'm not sure if theose pink things are being used for that purpose, or are the posts themselves. (Could it be both? I really don't know, myself. Sorry.)
