That's why you love rock music, because pure rock isn't about popularity or about commercial successs. It is about expressing your deepest feelings through your songs, baring your innermost thoughts through your musical mastery and skill.
Yes, there have been some bands that have utilized rock as a channel to gain popularity and commercial succes, but such outfits have not lasted, confirming that only those bands who actually remain faithful to their musical integrity are those who have been and will be around for decades.
As for pop, well, it is a totally different animal. I hate pop in general, especially the kind they show on MTV and VH1, it is simply disgusting. But hey, there are some people out there that could care less about skill or musical depth. They are contempt and pleased with the lyrics and catchy rhythms they are offered through these songs. These are the people who buy CD-singles, download a lot of crappy songs only to erased them next week because they either got sick of them or the songs are not hip anymore. Pop music was designed for this kind of people. Although I have to say, in every decade there have been a couple of good pop songs that have outlasted time, but other than that, I think American Idol, its anchors and all of its audience, let it be live or televised, should be thrown to the lions or at least be flamed in public.
