How can I save a playhouse I built for my 4 y/o for Christmas when the neighbors want it tore down?

We build a playhouse for my 4 y/o for Christmas on our land in a neighborhood we just moved into. We showed a picture of it prior to building it to all the neighbors who loved it and had no problem with it. One neighbor even stated he had one in the same spot for years for his child prior to Katrina. It is 8x16, 8 ft in the air, concreted in the ground, 2 story, living room with fake fire place and flat screen tv over it, kitchen with retro appliances, and loft with craft table that seated 8 kids. We wanted it to be 1st class to bring charm to the neighborhood. But a neighbor DID complain so the city stopped us from building without a permit. We now have to go in front of the planning commission and city council to try and get a variance. So my 4 year olds Christmas was destroyed. How happy the neighbors that complained must be to have done this. Can anyone give me suggestions on how to fight this?
